Senior Night Order of Events: A Run of Show That Works for Any Sport

September 6, 2026 · 5 min read

Most Senior Night stress on game day comes from timing nobody wrote down: when the ceremony starts, what order seniors walk, where everyone stands, and how long it all takes before officials want the game started. Here's a run of show that works, with the timing math.

The standard run of show

  1. T-minus 90 min — organizers arrive; stage flowers/gifts in walkout order; test the mic and video board.
  2. T-minus 30 — seniors and escorts arrive and check in; hand the announcer the final script.
  3. T-minus 20 — line up in walkout order in the hallway or end line, escorts with their senior.
  4. T-minus 15 — announcer opening; crowd's attention to center court/field.
  5. Walkouts — each senior announced (30–45 seconds), walks with escorts to the line, flower handoff, photo at the marked spot.
  6. Group moment — all seniors and families together for the wide photo; coach says a few words if desired.
  7. Clear the floor — families to reserved seats; players to warm-ups. Ceremony ends on schedule; officials happy.
  8. Post-game — team tunnel for seniors' final walk; casual photos while everyone's still there.

The timing math

Ceremony length ≈ 3 minutes fixed (opening, group photo, transitions) + 1 minute per senior. Eight seniors ≈ 11 minutes; fifteen seniors ≈ 18. Work backward from the scheduled first serve or kickoff and tell families an arrival time 30 minutes before the ceremony, not before the game — grandparents plan around the number you give them.

Walkout order

Alphabetical is the safe default and easiest to line up. Jersey-number order is traditional in football. Captains last builds to a peak. Whatever you choose, print it — the lineup hallway is not the place for debate.

One coordination call

A week out, confirm with the opposing coach and the officials that the ceremony precedes the game and how long it runs. Visiting teams are universally gracious about Senior Night when they know the plan — and rushed when they don't.

Keep the whole plan in one place your volunteers can see. SeniorNightDone builds the run of show, walkout slides, and announcer script from the same senior list, so the order in the hallway matches the order on the video board and in the announcer's hands.
